How to get involved

Our families are the heart and soul of our school. We provide not only the kids that bring us all together, but also the people, the ideas, the manpower and the passion that makes MRSS the truly standout school that we all enrolled for.  Marshall Road State School’s P&C plans to make our school even better!

We all juggle, jobs, parenthood, school runs, exercise, trips to the supermarket, kid’s sport, social commitments and more every day. But in order for us to make this calendar of exciting fundraising events a successful reality for us all, we need a little of your time as well.

If every family gives a little, together our school community gets a whole lot.

Here’s just a few examples of what the P&C was able to achieve in 2018 for our wonderful school, thanks to our volunteers:

Funding for 2 chilled water bubblers to the senior oval.

Funding for author’s workshops incursion for whole of school.

Air conditioning for the sick bay.

IT equipment for Grade 6 student IT leaders.

Funding for student leaders to attend a group leadership program.

Providing additional teaching resources.

15 Ukeleles, 1 trombone, 2 trumpets, 2 flutes, + lots more …

Check out the 2018 P&C wrap-up to see the full list of achievements.

There are also these other great benefits to volunteering:

Volunteers meet more people.
Volunteers gain professional experience.
Volunteering saves community resources.
Volunteers get to give something back.
Volunteering gives you a great sense of purpose.
Volunteering makes you feel great!

There are so many opportunities to join in and contribute at Marshall Road State School.

Here are some of the areas in the P&C that need volunteers:

Tuckshop

Open Monday first break, Wednesday first and second break and Friday first and second break.
Run by the wonderful Tania and Kara along with a handful of volunteers, these lovely ladies are always appreciative of extra hands and new people coming to help. Fridays are the busiest day but any spare time you have to help is welcome.

Uniform Shop

Open fortnightly Tuesday mornings. Run by the wonderful Leah. Volunteering here would give you a great insight into how we manage and purchase uniforms from the best suppliers for our children. Come along and help out and meet lots of our parent community.

Swim Club

Currently running a weekly swim club creating a friendly, social environment where the kids can keep fit in an environment as competitive as they want it to be. All races are set by time, not age, so all can feel encouraged.
This term we are fortunate enough to have secured a swim coach for learn to swim and squad training.

Sustainability

If keeping our school green and beautiful is your thing join our sustainability working group and get your ideas going. Headed up by the fabulous Sophie last year we regenerated the vegie gardens in the middle of the school and started the re-beautification of the permaculture area. There are lots of plans for this area this year with working bees already being planned. Join in quick as all input is welcome to make our school the best place.

Fete & Fundraising

This group of volunteers led by the amazing Erin and Sonia, organise numerous events throughout the year to raise funds for all the projects voted on by the P&C members. These events include Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls, movie night, markets, election day bbq’s and of course the Fete.
The number and variety of roles to be filled within this sub-committee are wide ranging so there is bound to be something you can contribute to, making the biggest event on the school calendar a memorable day for all the kids and the community.
